Industrial Panel Tags · Free planning resource

Tag & Label Budget Estimator

The estimator multiplies quantity by your unit cost and adds setup, packing and shipping, and tax or duty, all in one currency. Panel Tag Co stores no prices in it. Enter the amounts from a written quote, or an allowance from your bid, and the result is a planning total for that one tag family.

Build your plan

Use one currency throughout. All costs come from your inputs. The result is a planning total, not our selling price or a tax calculation.

The decision behind an equipment identification batch

Count each physical tag from the approved equipment schedule. Identifiers that look similar can belong to different assets, so preserve case, punctuation and leading zeros. Separate blank spare stock from fully marked replacement tags, and keep substrate, attachment and technical legend approval with the responsible project contact.

Keep with your brief: Exact identifier, legend, finished dimensions, substrate and hole positions.

Compare a complete illustrative order

Use 24 pieces at an assumed 60 currency units each, 80 for setup, 45 for packing and shipping, and 30 for tax or duty. These are arbitrary arithmetic inputs, not our prices or a tax assessment.

Understand what the result means

(Quantity × entered unit cost) + setup + packing and shipping + entered tax or duty

The example totals 1,595.00 in the entered currency. Changing the unit cost affects every piece; changing a one-time setup charge affects the order once. Use that distinction when deciding whether a simpler design or a different quantity actually reduces your total.

How does an estimator carry labeling into a bid?

An electrical estimator is pricing a tenant fit-out and needs a labeling allowance that will survive review. The job has two tag families: an Equipment Panel Tag Set for six lighting panels, and Asset ID & Inventory Plates for the mechanical equipment. She has a written quote from Panel Tag Co covering both, with a unit cost per family and one setup line each. She runs the estimator twice. The panel tags go in with their quantity, unit cost and setup. The asset plates go in separately with theirs, and shipping is entered once, on the first run only. Two totals, added by hand, become one line in the bid with the quote attached as backup.

Check these details before using the result

Averaging across tag families
A small phenolic legend and a stainless nameplate do not share a unit cost. Run each family on its own and add the totals.
Entering shipping on every run
If the kit ships as one parcel, put the shipping amount in one run only, or the total double-counts it.
Forgetting revision reorders
Late drawing changes often mean a second small order. Note an allowance for it beside the result instead of hiding it in unit cost.

Equipment Panel Tag Set

Start with the approved panel schedule and match every printed identifier to it. Provide label sizes, attachment and exposure requirements; the set identifies equipment and does not verify the electrical design or circuit information supplied.

Questions about this calculator

Does the estimator price tags by size or material?

No. It has no knowledge of plate size, material or engraving time. It only multiplies and adds what you enter. The unit cost for a given tag comes from a written quote against your schedule, which is the only place size, material and quantity are priced together.

Can it compare aluminum against phenolic for the same schedule?

Yes, if you hold a quoted unit cost for each. Run the estimator once per material with the same quantity and compare the totals. Check that both quotes cover the same attachment and packing, since a difference there can outweigh the difference in plate material.

Which buying guide should you read next?

All buying guides
Engraved nameplate color codes: your spec decides

Compares two published facility electrical identification specifications side by side to show that nameplate colors differ by owner, then lists exactly what to send so engraved tags match your own specification. Panel Tag Co engraves to the specification you supply and makes no code-compliance claim.

How to preserve leading zeros in an engraving file

Protect the exact identifier through spreadsheet import, export, proof and packing while separating engraving text from quantities and refusing to reconstruct lost digits without an authoritative schedule.

Send panel tag kits to international installation sites

Count unique legends, physical copies and installation kits separately. Preserve identifiers as text and attach the approved drawing revision, dimensions and mounting detail to each group. Split the packing schedule by panel or site without changing the source identifiers.

Metric dimensions and existing mounting holes

A replacement plate needs a complete mounting pattern as well as its outside dimensions. Preserve the original units, hole references and approved drawing.
